Many women delay seeking help for pelvic health symptoms because they assume the issues are “normal.”
Common does not mean normal.
Symptoms such as:
- leaking during exercise
- pelvic heaviness
- lower abdominal pressure
- pain during movement
- or reduced confidence with training
are all signs that the system is not functioning optimally.
The problem is many women adapt around these symptoms instead of addressing them directly.
They stop running.
Avoid jumping.
Reduce gym training.
Brace excessively during movement.
Over time, activity levels drop and confidence decreases.
Women’s health physiotherapy focuses on understanding why these symptoms are happening.
Sometimes the issue is weakness.
Sometimes it is excessive tension, poor coordination, pressure management, or breathing mechanics.
This is why generic “pelvic floor exercises” often fail.
The pelvic floor does not work in isolation.
It works alongside:
- breathing
- abdominal pressure control
- posture
- and movement patterns
This becomes especially important during:
- return to exercise
- postpartum recovery
- high-impact sport
- and peri-menopause
Addressing these issues early often changes not just symptoms — but overall movement confidence and quality of life.
Women should not have to structure their entire activity around symptoms they have been told to simply tolerate.
Call to book a women’s health physio assessment and move confidently again.
